YWCA Nurse Betty’s Community Care
Connection (NBCCC). NBCCC is an outreach program dedicated to
promoting health, wellness and safety, thereby preserving
independence, self sufficiency and improving quality of life for all
members of the community, but more specifically for seniors.
Betty Morris, RN
has over 37 years of experience as a Registered Nurse providing
services to the community with special focus on women, children and
seniors. She has an extensive background in case management and is
an expert in assessment of needs, planned development/
implementation and resources.
Betty Morris, RN
YWCA Nurse Betty’s
Community Care Connection
began as "Betty’s Closet" in the fall of 1993, at
Detroit Riverview Hospital (Detroit Eastside) which was a part of
the Detroit Macomb Hospital Corporation, later purchased by St. John
Health System. Betty Morris, RN, Director of Discharge Planning,
Social Work, Pastoral Care, Islamic Health, Senior Services and
Parish Nursing at St. John Detroit Riverview Hospital, developed the
community outreach program, resources and a charitable community
closet.
| Outreach into the Community... |
The continued efforts to service
the needs of this impoverish area, the community outreach had to
extend beyond the walls of St. John Detroit Riverview Hospital. The
outreach support continued by providing health screens, education,
food, clothing and transportation and other resources to the
community with a special focus on women, children and seniors
(ranging in age from 50 and older).
When Detroit Riverview Hospital
closed on June 30, 2007, Betty’s Closet continued its community
outreach and services from her car. In the months that
followed, NBCCC has broadened its service area.
