2013 Nominee List

On June 6, 2013, the YWCA of Metropolitan Detroit will announce and present the prestigious ATHENA Leadership Award® and ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award® to exemplary leaders from our community at the 2nd annual Detroit ATHENA Award Program celebration and dinner.

The ATHENA Leadership Award Program is administered by ATHENA International, a non-profit women’s leadership organization, in partnership with licensed host organizations and sponsors. Over 6,000 awards have been presented in over 500 communities in the United States and around the world since the programs’ inception in 1982. Nominations are sought throughout the community and across professional sectors, and the Recipient is selected by a diverse group of local community leaders based on the criteria below.

ATHENA Leadership Award Criteria

The ATHENA Award is presented to an individual who is recognized for professional excellence, for providing valuable service to their community and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills. The ATHENA Award highlights what Recipients have accomplished in addition to paving a path for future successes. The award is established through local host organizations in partnership with ATHENA’s national underwriters, local businesses and individual sponsors. By honoring exceptional leaders, the ATHENA Award Program seeks to inspire others to
achieve excellence.

ATHENA Leadership Award Nominees must meet each of the following three criteria:
• Demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession
• Provide valuable service to improve the quality of life for others in their community
• Actively assist women in achieving their full leadership potential
• There is no minimum or mazimum age qualification that must be met by the Athena   Leadreship Award nominees.

ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award Criteria

The ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award honors emerging leaders. ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award Nominees are 40 years of age or younger.

ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Nominees are emerging women leaders who meet each of the following criteria:
• Demonstrates excellence, creativity and initiative in her business or profession
• Provides valuable service to improve the quality of life for others in her community
• Clearly serves as a role model for young women both personally and professionally
